Art of Peeping: Photography at it Limits

This article talks about the fine line between artistic freedom and breaking the law. Arne Svenson is a photographer who likes to interpret human action by watching them when their gaurds are down. He took pictures of his neighbors from his apartment window without their permissions, and this resulted in him being sued and questioned about his integrity. Even though the pictures were "painterly" and the people in them couldn't really be identified, it was an invasion of privacy.
The courts decided that he wasn't guilty because of the first amendment's freedom of speech, but this also ignored the people's rights to privacy.Other artists had done projects like this, where they documented human behavior.  Kohei Yoshiyuki photographed couples  having sex in public in Tokyo, and Shizuka Yokomizo also surveild her neighbors, but she sent a note out warning them before she did it. Svenson spied on people when they were in the comfort of their own homes. I think that photography should have some boundaries, if a person only decides to take "peeping" pictures then they shouldn't have full protection from the freedom of speech.

Supersize Me

In the documentary, "Supersize Me", Morgan Spurlock addresses the problem of obesity caused by fast food intake. the lawsuits that went against fast food resturaunts weren't taken seriously by judges, so Spurlock decided to take on the challenege of eating nothing but McDonald's for a whole month. He documents himself eating McDonald's Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner to give his audience a vivid account of the negative effects of eating too much fast fast food. He believed that since McDonalds is such a booming business, and the advertisements are so popular that people become blindsided when they have to make the choice between junk food, and something nutritious.
He goes to different schools to see what type of food is served, and asks different people on the street their opinion of fast food to make his message clear that many Americans go out to eat on the regular basis, and without enough information advertised about the nutrition facts, we are vulnerable to bad health.

The Medium is the Massage (pg 8-16)

I thought these pages were interesting because they talked about how people are more connected by using technology, as opposed to the old way of just communicating face to face. i agree with this because technology can help you communicate with the people who aren't around you, but it can also create a feeling of emptiness with the people you are around because everyone is so attached to their devices. It says that "students of the media are persistently attacked as evaders, idly concentrating on means or processes rather than on 'substances'",this means that since today's world moves so quickly because of technology, people don't really take the time out acknowledge sentimental things in their lives that much .
it also expresses how privacy is limited now that everyone is so "connected". instead of it just being you and the people close to you, everyone is able to give their input on your decisions. when it say "the family circle has widened", it means that now society is able to see whats going on in your life.
